Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root vegetable known as a superfood that grows in the harsh conditions of the Peruvian Andes. It is also known as Peruvian ginseng or “Andean crown.” Maca root thrives in the Andean highlands, where the climate ranges from cold to hot.
Foodin’s Peruvian partner is one of the pioneers in maca cultivation and processing. Supermaca is a unique product and the result of extensive development, culminating in an exceptionally potent maca powder. Supermaca contains up to 2% glucosinolates — maca’s active compounds. It is a highly concentrated maca powder made from all three maca varieties: black, red, and yellow.
Supermaca is harvested fresh from the Andes and dried in a controlled environment using specialized equipment. Typically, maca roots are dried in the sun for several weeks, which significantly lowers the glucosinolate content to as little as 0.1%.
