What does umami mean?
Umami is known as the fifth basic taste alongside sweet, salty, sour and bitter. The word comes from Japanese and refers to a savoury, full-bodied taste. Umami occurs naturally in many familiar ingredients, including mushrooms, soy sauce, fermented foods and aged cheeses. Umami sauce makes it easy to bring that same rich flavour profile into everyday cooking.
How to use umami sauce
Add a splash of umami sauce to stir-fries or fried vegetables, mix it into marinades, or serve it with sushi and rice dishes. It also works well as a base for salad dressings and adds rich flavour to mushrooms and other vegetables. Once opened, store the umami sauce in the refrigerator.
