SOUR CHERRY BRINGS BALANCE TO SWEET TREATS
Sour cherry (Prunus cerasus) is a delicious combination of sour and sweet. Related to cherries, sour cherries are a slightly more sour experience, as the name suggests, but don’t let it fool you – these berries are a real treat!
Sour cherries are particularly good on top of muesli, cereal, porridge or yogurt. They bring balance to sweet raw chocolate or even sweeter caramel fudge, and you can add them plentifully into cake batters and pies. Sour cherries are also a popular base for drinks, liquors and syrups, so even if you’ve never tasted the actual cherry, the taste might be familiar.
Sour cherry trees bloom in summer, and the berries are ripe by August. Sour cherry harvests are usually plentiful, making it a good alternative to farmers.
